When are braces necessary?

Braces can be used for:

• crooked or rotated teeth
• too little or too much space in the dentition
• problems with the position of teeth
• abnormalities in the bite or jaw position

Not every situation immediately requires braces. Sometimes monitoring is sufficient, or treatment may be more appropriate at a later time. We always discuss this carefully with you.

Treatment by a dentist for orthodontics

Our practice employs dentists for orthodontics. Within dentistry, they have specialized in performing orthodontic treatments on both children and adults.

We are not an orthodontic practice, and there are no orthodontists working in the practice. In more complex orthodontic situations, we consciously choose to refer you to an orthodontist so that you receive the care that suits your situation.

You can also always indicate that you would prefer to be referred to an orthodontist (directly). We take your preference seriously.

Brackets

Brackets are a commonly used fixed brace. The brackets are glued to the teeth and connected to each other with a resilient wire. This wire gradually moves the teeth into the correct position.

We work with both metal and ceramic brackets, which are less visible and therefore may be more aesthetically pleasing. These braces are suitable for both young people and adults.

Headgear

In some situations, it is necessary to influence not only the teeth but also the position of the jaw. In that case, headgear can be used, often in combination with other braces.

How long and how often these braces must be worn depends on the goal of the treatment. We always discuss this clearly in advance.

Clear, removable aligners

Would you prefer not to have visible braces? Then clear, removable aligners may be a suitable option. These braces consist of transparent trays that are worn virtually invisibly and are changed regularly.

This treatment is especially suitable for mild to moderate corrections. Together, we will see if this option is suitable for you.

Which braces are most suitable depends on your teeth, your wishes, and the complexity of the correction. We take the time to discuss the possibilities, advantages, and disadvantages with you and create a personal treatment plan together.
